Dentures
Dentures in Minneapolis
Dentures are devices made by a dentist to restore missing teeth. By restoring the missing teeth with a denture device, a dentist can return the dental patient's mouth to a relatively healthy state. As removable devices, dentures are easily cleaned, and if made properly can look very much like the original teeth.
Patients with a new denture may find that it takes time to accustom the mouth to a new denture. Often a number of adjustments by the dentist need to be made for a denture to fit comfortably.
In the case where a patient has a full set of dentures, regular six month dental visits are suggested to make sure the dentures are fitting correctly, and for the dentist to do any necessary adjustments as soon as they are needed.
The main problem with dentures
As we all know, the really big problem with a denture is that it is not attached to the mouth in any way. Instead, the denture is held in place with an adhesive. As almost any denture wearer will tell you, adhesives have their own problems. They can irritate the gums, and they may not dependably hold the denture in place. Certain foods too are difficult to eat, because biting into them requires so much pressure on the denture and, more consequentially, the adhesive holding the denture.
Good news about dentures!
There is, however, extremely good news out of dentistry for our patients that have a denture: now a denture can be made to attach itself solidly to the mouth with the setting of dental implants. This is called an implant supported denture, and it eliminates the chief complaint about dentures; i.e., that it is not a part of the mouth. With an implant supported denture, a denture patient can really feel that their denture is a part of their mouths. It snaps out for easy cleaning, and snaps right back in again!
"If you have a denture and would like to discuss making an implant supported denture instead, please don't hesitate to give me a call. "
