Extractions
Tooth extractions in Minneapolis
Extraction of a tooth becomes necessary when the tooth is badly decayed or fractured, and the nerve of the tooth (the pulp) is involved.
Sometimes a tooth in this state can be saved by performing a root canal on the tooth, then covering it with a crown.
In those cases where the tooth must be extracted, the patient is given the best before and after care that can be provided, including instructions on how to care for that area in the mouth afterwards.
Extractions we do here
We do most types of extractions, except those involving the wisdom teeth, teeth that have undergone root canals, or teeth with unusual root structures. In these cases, we refer our patients to oral surgeons.
From Dr. Meysman on extractions
"My goal as your dentist is to save a tooth from being extracted in any way possible. Once a tooth is extracted, it is of course gone, and quite simply it needs to be replaced in order to maintain good oral health. So it make the best sense to keep the original teeth in the mouth instead of extracting them. To do this, we have many options, all of which you as the patient will be made aware of in order that you can make the best possible choice for your tooth and consequent oral health.
"In some cases, however, it just isn't possible to save a tooth with current dental technology, or financially it is not possible for a patient to save a tooth. In these extreme cases, we do perform extractions. Also, patients should know that for those cases where extractions can be complex undertakings, we have allied ourselves with some of the best dental surgeons in the city for the best possible outcome." -Dr. Tripti Meysman
