Family Dentistry

Family Dentistry in Minneapolis

What is "family" dentistry?

In a sense, a family is like a microcosm of the society's population: there are children, sometimes adolescents, and of course adults. Each of these age groups has their own issues with respect to dentistry. In family dentistry the dentist and the dental team need to be able to work across this whole spectrum of ages, a challenge that is not for every dental office, especially in the case of children.

So when an office says they practice family dentistry, it means that they are equipped and energetic about working with children and adults, most often at the same time.

Children especially need to be treated very, very carefully. It is not unusual — some might argue that it is common — for adult patients to be "afraid" of the dentist because of something that happened in a dental office long ago when they were children.

For many dental offices practicing family dentistry, children can be "high maintanence". But we really want to see children in our office: they add a lot of life and energy, and bring in a real breath of fresh air. Our promise: we are committed to each child having a fun dental experience in this office (yes, it is possible: we see it all the time).

Minneapolis: a triving "family" community

"When I first became a college student in Minneapolis, I distinctly remember how the downtown was then as compared to today. Back then if you came downtown on a Saturday or Sunday morning — which I would do to go to the downtown YMCA — only a few people were walking around, most waiting to catch a bus somewhere, others just hanging out.

"Today, wow! What a difference. Not only are people out and about at all times of the day and all days of the week, you see baby carriages and people walking dogs too. The streets are clean, and we have those wonderful people from the city walking around ready to give directions and help.

"So that brings me to family dentistry. I like to think of our practice as That small, friendly office in all those big buildings, something like in the old days when you could stop in and just say 'hi'. Well, why not? It happens!

"And how about David and Michelle's beautiful family here. Our office really comes alive when they visit, and we really look forward to it.

"So, we are grateful to all our patients from all walks of life, from all areas of the metro. A special place is in our hearts, however, for our families — like David and Michelle's — that come to see us. What a joy to see children grow up, enter high school, go off to college."

Our surrounding communities

"We also have individuals, couples and families that visit us from all our surrounding communities. Many of them work downtown, so they have their dentist downtown. But we have a significant number of patients who travel an hour or more just to come and see us! And yes, we are very, very grateful. What better compliment can we have?"
