What is a Family Dentist in Minneapolis?
A lot of dentists have "Family Dentist" on their sign. But what does that mean exactly? As far as we know, there isn't any one definition as defined by some authority somewhere, and perhaps it means as many different things as their are "family dentists".
To us, however, a family dentist has a strong implication. It implies that your entire family can go to that dentist and be comfortable being there. That means mom and dad, teenagers, and young children ages 2 and above. That is quite a spread in ages!
The really impressionable age group, however, is the young child. Connecting with young children is something very different than connecting with a junior high student, or with a parent. The dentist that can do that is the one you want to bring your family to.
We see so many people who have had some bad experience in the past with their former "family dentist"! Avoiding a bad experience "at the dentist" for a child is critically important for that child later in life as an adult. Fear of going to the dentist can lead to avoiding regular visits and dental hygiene, setting the stage for a life of dental problems that could have been avoided if not for that one bad experience.
So for us a family dentist really has to have the word "fun" associated with it. If your young children like "going to the dentist" with you, then you know you have a "family dentist".
